Electronic Mail is a tool for sending and receiving Information from one or more beneficiaries via Internet Network linking to the computers. As we go back in history we found that first email was sent way back in 1971 by a compute engineer Mr Ray Tomlinson. At that time for sending an email the sender and receiver must be online at the same time. ARPANET technology was used that time for sending the mail. Then this technology was advanced and changed into Internet technology in 1980’s.
As the mails is sent between the computers, so to identify the designated machine by its address consisting of @ sign. This sign is used between login name of your mail account and the host computer.
Email user requires email clients to send and receive their emails. Some of mail clients are Outlook express, thunderbird etc. When the mail is send from one place then it goes to Mail Transfer Agents which will transfer and store the messages to the receiver using SMTP Protocols. Some of these agents are Post Fix, Exim, Qmail, etc.
Then finally the message has been delivered by Message Delivery Agent and looks after the mail box of user of client by using IMAP or POP. Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail are free e mail service provider on Internet.
Email has become a crucial part of day-to-day communication. For example, if a person from USA wishes to send some flowers to her girlfriend living in Austria, he can send an email about that to any online florist like online-blumenversand.org and job’s done.
Email messages in consisted of three parts:
- Envelope of the message
- Header of the message
- Body of the message
File Transfer Protocol was used as extensions in ARPANET Technology, now days in Internet Simple Mail Transfer Protocol is used as an extension.
